The Irish flag, its colours and symbolism.





The flag of Ireland is a vertically barred tricolour of green white and orange bands.The size is length twice the height.(see iamge below)

The green sybolizes the nationalist population of Ireland and the orange symbolizes the unionist population of Ireland.the white band represents peace between the two traditions.

The flag was adopted by the republic/south of Ireland in 1922 after the end of the war of independence.Many nationalists including those residing in Northern Ireland regard the flag as being the flag of the whole island of Ireland.
